What is Prayer?
Prayer means asking for help from your god or goddess. Healing prayers are specifically a request for a god or goddess to help with your healing. Throughout the centuries, people have prayed to many goddesses and gods of healing. The Celtic god Grannus’ healing center in Germany was visited by the Emperor Caracalla, who it is said the god refused to heal him. Caracalla, who had physical as well as mental health challenges at the time gave many votive offerings to the god to no avail. In the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City, which dates back to the 1500’s CE, today, devotees can pin votive charms as sacrificial items to Mary, Mother of Jesus in a prayer to her for healing. Asclepius, a Greek god of healing, was honored with healing centers called asclepieia. He was revered as not only a physician, but as such a good one, he was said to raise the dead. Patients traveled to his healing temples and upon admission, they first underwent cleansing baths and ritual diets for a number of days. They would then go to sleep in the temple, and await a visit from the god or his helpers in a dream. After they had a dream, the dream would be interpreted by a temple priest who would prescribe a treatment which could include dietary changes, more ritual purifications, or simply lifestyle changes. Some of the patients would even get surgery there.
These ancient prayers for healing were different from the prayers a lot of modern people do. Today's people quite often just ask a god to miraculously heal them. Other options for healing from a deity include guidance to the correct doctor, a definitive diagnosis, or even being able to afford expensive medications. People who are having emotional or psychological things that they need help from can pray for guidance to a good counselor or knowledge about what is causing the problem in the first place. All prayers for healing entail a request for intercession from a divine being and acknowledgement that assistance is needed for healing to happen. What Are Spells?
Merriam-Webster online defines a spell as “ A spoken word or form of words held to have magic power.” Magic this moving energy in conformity with your will. Spells are ways of creating a change in the energy surrounding a situation and the goal is to create a physical change in reality. Some people just use magic words for their spells, but other people use things like candles, cloth, objects such as nails, poppets or dolls, and oils for their magic. An example of a spell comes to us from the folklorist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston. In her collection of folkways and magic titled Mules and Men, she writes a spell “To make a man come home-Take nine deep red or pink candles. Write his name three times on each candle. Wash the candles with Van-Van. Put the name three times on paper and place under the candles, and call thee name of the party three times as the candle is placed at the hours of seven, nine or eleven.” Learn about prayers and spells for love and spirituality here: Spells and Prayers for Love and Spirituality
A healing spell from ancient Egypt for a headache is shared by the University of Chicago as follows: “ "My head, my head," said Horus. "The half of my head (migrane), the half of my head," said Thoth. "Act for me, mother Isis and aunt Nephthys! Give me your head in exchange for my head, the half of my head!" (Isis speaks): "Just as I have seen these people (= human sufferers), so I have heard these gods (Horus and Thoth) saying to me on behalf of my son Horus: 'Let there be brought to me your head in exchange for my head.' Let threads be brought from the edge of a garment, having been made into seven knots, placed on the left foot of -Your name here- born of -Mother's name here. What is placed below will cure what is above, for I have elevated what the gods seek. This spell is to be said over seven threads of a garment, made into seven knots, placed on the left foot of a man.” Read more from the University of Chicago here: Practical Egyptian Magical Spells | Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures
How are Spells Different from Prayers?
Prayers and spells share some similarities, but there can be a bit of difference between them. Prayers are requests for help to some kind of a spiritual being whereas in spell work, the person casting the spell may call on a god or goddess for help, but they typically rely on magic itself as opposed to divine intervention. In a prayer, if there is work done besides the request for help, that is typically sacrificial offerings, or things done to show that you are serious about calling for help. Charitable works and donations as well as volunteering of time in the name of a god or a goddess are all things that can be done after request for prayers. In spell work, the work done only goes toward trying to accomplish the goal of the spell. Learn how to start writing spells here: How to Write a Spell | Spell Guide
Sometimes, prayers don't entail any work at all, just a request for help. Such prayers can be made silently or aloud, and they can be spoken or written. One form of healing prayer is a prayer shawl. This is popular among knitters and crocheters in modern times. The person knitting or crocheting the prayer shawl will pray while they're making it and if it's a healing prayer shawl, they will put their good intentions and well wishes that the recipient will be healed by the power of prayer that is contained in the shawl. If you are ever sick, maybe someone in your community will pray for healing for you. Read about building good strong communities here: Our Communities: Building and Nurturing Them
Some Healing Prayers
There are different forms of healing to pray for. What kind of healing you can pray for as miraculous healing. A simple script for that type of healing by the author is as follows” Dear (name of god or goddess), look upon your child (the name of who you are praying for healing for), and have mercy upon them for their illness and suffering it is causing. Please grant them healing immediately. Ease their worries, make their pain disappear, and make every trace of illness or suffering miraculously go away. Heal their body and make it whole as if this illness had never happened. Then please protect them from all pain and illness in the future so that they may never go through anything like this again. In your name we pray.
Some pray for medication to help with healing. Catholic Online , or catholic.org shares a Prayer for those on Medication that says “ Gracious God, you have given us many healing remedies that are a benefit to us when we are sick. Through the miraculous intercession of Saint Anthony we ask for your blessing upon the medication prescribed for (mention name) so that he/she may experience healing, and be restored to full health and mind and body. Amen.” Read more prayers from catholic.org here: Prayer for those on Medication - Prayers - Catholic Online

Doing Healing Magic
Healing magic is different from healing prayers and you can do it in a number of ways. Some people say that food is medicine and eating certain foods are the best way to heal your body. Drinking plenty of water can help to lower your sodium levels as well as laying off excessive amounts of salt. Practicing good self-care helps too. If you are suffering from crippling anxiety every time you are in the presence of your ex, you don't necessarily need to do spell work as much as you need to tell your ex to go away and leave you alone. If you have difficulty driving the car at night because your vision has changed and it's harder to see, a spell won't take that away. Driving places earlier in the day or getting someone to help you by driving you places at night is the answer to that. You can also work on your chakras for healing. You can find out how here: How to Access Your Chakras
One form of healing magic is to take a healing bath. Get a clean jar, and sit it outside where it can catch rainwater. Once it is filled, put a tightly fitting lid on it so it will stay clean and sit the jar of water either in full sunlight, or the light of the Full Moon, depending on whether the power of the sun or moon feel more healing for you. You can put things in the water like crystals, or tape a photo of your goddess or god to the jar so the energy of these things enters the water. Then there are two different ways to take a healing bath. First, you can simply take this blessed water and rub a little on the part of your body that needs healed. You can also combine this water with a full tub of water, and bathe your whole body in it, visualizing it washing away all illness within your body. Read about the Full Moon and it’s meaning here: What Does a Full Moon Mean?
Another form of healing magic is to do a purge. That’s right. Get rid of something that is dragging you down. What is causing problems in your life physically, spiritually, or emotionally? Is it a toxic relationship? Break things off. Are you eating poorly and it is making you sick? See a nutritionist or your doctor, and start making changes. Are bad habits ruining your life? Break those bad habits and replace them with new, good habits. A spell you can use when you purge bad things from your life is to simply write on paper what it is you want out of your life. Once you have written it down, burn the paper, and as the last bits turn to ash, say “Be gone with you!” You aren’t still in love with your ex are you? Does Prayer and Magic Fix Everything?
Nothing fixes everything. Perhaps medicine combined with a healthy lifestyle and healthy diet is the best combination for good health. A chronic condition like diabetes can be well treated with the proper diet, but some people need medication for that. Saying a prayer or casting a spell is no substitute for these things. Likewise, some people try to replace counseling sessions with their psychological therapist with a Tarot reading or a spell from a magical practitioner. Some people swear by a combination of thighs for healing. We can't tell you how to take care of your health, but sometimes prayers, spells, or psychic consultations don't fix what's wrong and you need a doctor or lifestyle change. Your inner voice will know how to heal yourself. Read about some things a psychic reading can help with here; What to Ask Your Psychic in Your First Reading
